Top 100 Games of All Time
This is TekRebel Designs Top 100 Games
of all time. The list was compiled in a variety of platforms
with first-hand gaming experience with every game listed.
(written in 2000)
Worst Game Ever!
Glover (Nintendo 64)
I bought this game when it was only $9.99 and even
then I thought I was ripped off 20 bucks. This game
is horrible! The controls are the worst I’ve ever seen
and the storyline is stupid. Worst of all, the controls
become reversed when you’re on your ball on the water,
and all of the levels have water! Stupid game that should
have not been made.
Top 100
100. Mortal Kombat 3 (Any
platform)
You might be wondering why this just barely made
my top 100. Back in the day I was more of a Street Fighter
fan, but I still played this game and I can still remember
my sore thumbs.
99. Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega)
I’m not too much of a Sega fun and never really was.
I think it’s a bad system trying to make a quick buck.
This game was actually interesting though. Sorry to
say but this is the only appearance of Sonic in my top
100.
98. Super Mario Bros. (NES)
Mario and Luigi’s hit duo debut. This is where Mario
and Luigi team up to bring a name for them. A great
game and a classic till the end.
97. Wario Land (Gameboy)
Many of you don’t know this but Wario Land is actually
Mario Land 3. Well Wario, Mario’s evil bro, is hitting
off the start of a series with his first game. This
might be the start of a classic.
96. Excitebike (NES)
The cool thing about this game is that I believe
this is the first game where you can design your own
courses. Even on the NES it had a ton of options.
95. Faxanadu (NES)
Many of you have probably never heard this game but
its very fun and entertaining. I especially liked it
when you talked to people and their eyes simultaneously
moved with their mouths.
94. Shadowgate (NES)
This game is as freaky as a game gets. The music
was done incredibly well that it brings a certain eeriness
that will freak you out even today.
93. Megaman (NES)
The game that started it all. I own an MP3 to every
music of every level to every Megaman on the Nintendo.
Dr. Wily is the ultimate boss around. No one can compete
with him.
92. Illusions of Gaia (Super
NES)
I didn’t get a shirt that they were offering when
I bought this game. The monsters were tough and the
spells were decent enough. Not the greatest RPG but
it’ll do.
91. Secret of Evermore (Super
NES)
For all those people that don’t know, this is NOT
the official sequel to Secret of Mana. This game was
created my Squaresoft America and they could have done
a better job. It was still an enjoyable game though.
90. Super Mario Kart (Super
NES)
This game was a game that me and my friends played
constantly on the Super NES. Racing games are always
fun especially when they’re funny.
89. Half-Life (PC Game)
Many of you would think this would get a higher ranking
but really I didn’t think so. The game is good, don’t
get me wrong but I’m not really into the team cooperation-type
games. I would rather go it alone against everybody.
88. Quest 64 (Nintendo 64)
I rented this game for a whole week straight and
had to finish it due to addiction. It was the first
RPG to be on the N64 so give it some credit when you
play it.
87. Star Wars: X-Wing Vs.
Tie Fighter (PC Game)
Shooting down Tie Fighters and X-wings is so much
fun that you need to experience it to understand what
I’m getting at.
86. Metroid (NES)
The classic that started it all. This game should
get a sequel on the N64 sometime soon because I would
buy it. And who would have thought that Samus was a
hot looking chick.
85. Metroid: Return of Samus
(Gameboy)
Hunting Metroids couldn’t get any more enjoyable
than this game. The boss is one of the coolest Gameboy
bosses I’ve seen and the graphics are stunning, even
for the Gameboy.
84. 1942 (Arcade)
I think arcade games are the worst because they are
so addicting and you have to pay for them. Which is
not necessarily a bad thing which in this case is true.
Classics never die.
83. Duke Nukem (PC Game)
This is like the x-rated version of Doom and I love
it. The controls are great and the animations are good
but they need some cut scenes.
82. Cruisin World (Arcade)
This is the great sequel to Cruisin USA gone international
with more cars to choose from and tougher courses. Another
great hit.
81. Excitebike 64 (Nintendo
64)
This game continues where it left off on the Nintendo
and what’s better is that you can play the original
Excitebike on it. The 3-D level designing is cool too.
80. Super C (Super NES)
A great sequel to Control, the multiplayer aspect
of the previous game just got better. What’s also cool
is the previous boss made a guest appearance on the
last level.
79. Cruisin USA (Arcade)
This game ate my coins up. I remember this game sitting
in the movie theater lobby and while I waited for my
movie, I would spend all my money here. The controls
are just absolutely great.
78. Asteroids (Atari 2600)
When I listen to Aaliyah’s song Try Again from the
Romeo Must Die soundtrack, I swear the music they use
is from this game. Listen to it. Anyways this game is
still great regardless.
77. Super Mario Bros. 3
(NES)
Mario is at it again with this No. 1 hit on Nintendo
of all time. My most favorite thing about this game
was the hammer bros suit you can get. The Tanooki suit
was also pretty good but the Kabuki boot kicked ass.
76. Donkey Kong 64 (Nintendo
64)
I really only bought this game because it came with
an expansion pack but afterwards ended up enjoying the
game. I’ve gotten 101% of all the items in the game.
75. Contra (NES)
The ultimate renegade action game. This game was
so tough yet so fun back then and actually still is.
The Hanger, I thought, was the toughest level. The multiplayer
was also extremely well done.
74. Mike Tyson’s Punchout
(Arcade)
This game was a classic arcade hit with some of the
coolest boxers. They brought their characters to life
by their boxing styles. I’ve beaten Mike Tyson in the
second round with 2:45 on the clock.
73. Megaman X (PC Game)
At first I thought this was Megaman 10 and I wondered
“What happened to 7,8, and 9 on the Nintendo system?”
But this is the beginning of a great, new series. The
Boss names are cooler too.
72. Super Metroid (Super
NES)
This was a good sequel to the Metroid series. The
game is extremely addicting and your arsenal is one
of the best you can get. There are too many secret areas
in this game.
71. NBA Live 95 (Super NES)
I got this game for 5 bucks because of a store error
and it is one of the best buys I’ve ever had. I always
play with the Pacers with Reggie Miller and have over
40,000 points with a 48% 3-pointer.
70. Shinobi (Arcade)
This was the first arcade game I was exposed to and
I could remember waiting my turn to get a chance to
play for even a couple of seconds. Like I always say,
classics never die.
69. Final Fantasy: Mystic
Quest (Super NES)
A tangent from the Final Fantasy series, this is
the first appearance of anything associated with Final
Fantasy. This game was kinda easy but still fun to play.
Expect to see more of Final Fantasy.
68. Final Fantasy Legend
3 (Gameboy)
When the Final Fantasy series hit the Gameboy, I
was ecstatic. This game is the third game in the Gameboy
series but still carries the Final Fantasy legacy.
67. Final Fantasy Legend
2 (Gameboy)
This was the first game I experience on my Gameboy
from the Final Fantasy series. It’s different from other
RPG that you don’t gain levels by fighting monsters
but raise single attributes.
66. Dragon Warrior 2 (NES)
The great sequel to the original Dragon Warrior.
This time rather than going it alone you get two companions
with different character specialties. The Legend of
Erdrick lives on.
65. Commands and Conquer
(PC Game)
This game was good but wasn’t as good as its sequel.
GDI and NOD forces are something to be reckoned with.
It’s a good game and a classic hit.
64. Pac Man (Arcade)
Everyone’s played Pac Man, even your parents. This
is a classic arcade hit that can be found almost anywhere.
This is a must download.
63. Jet Force Gemini (Nintendo
64)
The weapons are some of the best that I’ve seen in
any game. The way the characters straff is also unique
from other games and the Tribals look like Ewoks. Though
it’s still a fun game.
62. Mario 64 (Nintendo 64)
One of the first games to be released with the Nintendo
64 and what a game it is. It carries on the Mario Legacy
that it has had with the other two Nintendo platforms.
Too bad Luigi doesn’t have series.
61. Magic: The Gathering
(Card Game)
I played this game for over three years and have
probably spent more than two thousand dollars playing
it. I finally gave up when too many sets were coming
out too fast and it was getting expensive.
60. Mortal Kombat 4 (Arcade)
My bro introduced me to this game and basically I
was his sparring partner. I hated it so much because
he knew every move and every fatality and I only knew
how to play Tanya and do one fatality. One day I’ll
get even.
59. Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles: Manhattan Project (Arcade)
This game was a coin-eater. The TMNT were cool back
then until they started making movies. I think the games
were better.
58. River City Ransom (NES)
I wished that they had made a sequel to this cute,
fun game. I love the way they chomped down food and
it made me laugh when they showed his crack when they
went into the sauna. You also get to beat people up
and take their change.
57. Wolfenstein 3-D (PC
Game)
This game for some reason is the only 3-D shooting
game that gets me dizzy and gives me headaches. I don’t
know why but it is still an addicting game.
56. Dr. Mario (NES)
This multiplayer game is based on your mind’s ability
to think quickly. The faster you are, the more your
opponent is pushed into a world of hurt. But the cool
thing is that you can get out of that rut by thinking
quickly.
55. Mahjongg (PC Game)
I use to play this on a consistent basis. It’s a
matching memory game that has certain unique, yet enjoyable
rules. I think you can download this game for free.
My best time beating it is 2:16. See if you can beat
that.
54. Bust-A-Move (PC Game)
This is another classic game for the PC. I’m sure
moms all over the world are addicted to this game. The
rules are easy to follow but it is a very difficult
game still.
53. Gauntlet (NES)
My bros and I would play this till the Nintendo was
so overheated that it would just shut off. This game
has no ending! I’ve gone as far as level 350, which
is about 12 hours of gameplay. What I also like about
this game is that every now and then you can hurt the
other players or steal the good potions. It’s a fun
game in multiplayer.
52. Super Street Fighter
Turbo (Arcade)
This is the grandfather of all fighting games. I
wasn’t really a pro at this game but it still enticed
me enough to play. My favorite character is Chun Li
and her rapid kick.
51. Dragon Warrior 3 (NES)
This RPG was good because you could choose and customize
your characters. You could also make characters and
put them in reserve.
Top 50
50. Scrabble (Board Game)
This is absolutely my most favorite spelling board
game out of the millions out there. I have yet to spell
a seven or eight letter word and am still hoping to
spell QWIJEEBO (Simpson’s episode) someday. Just barely
making my top Fifty
49. Golf (Windows Game)
The game has the simplest of instructions but is
very difficult to finish. I got addicted to this game
because I simply couldn’t beat it. After playing the
game over 400 times I had only beaten it 3 times. It
is a very addicting game.
48. Dungeons and Dragons
(Atari 2600)
This is about as high for any game in Atari will
go in my top 100. Loved this game when I was young.
47. Donkey Kong (Super NES)
The graphics on this game totally blew me away. This
was as close as you could get to a 3-D world without
being there. I have played this game a number of times
and still cannot get that 101% that you can supposedly
get.
46. Who wants to be a millionaire?
(Playstation)
When I work at Best Buy, I usually work the games
and software and every now and then you can find me
helping a customer answer a question. It is just as
addicting as the TV show.
45. Crystalis (NES)
This game is another RPG classic. It was a good thing
that they remade this onto the Game Boy Color. Too bad
you couldn’t go further than level 16.
44. Solitaire (Windows Game)
Everybody knows this game and would agree with me
that it has the biggest addicting factor out of any
game out there. This is another classic game that can
be found on any PC.
43. Banjo Kazooie (Nintendo
64)
I rented this game and ended up buying it. Not a
new version but the same one that I rented. It was so
addicting that I had my friend hook me up for a decent
price. It’s a fun game and you’ll love it if you like
Mario 64.
42. Tetris (NES)
I first played this game on the PC but fell in love
with in on the NES. Too bad this didn’t have a simultaneous
two-player back then or it would have been an awesome
game. My high score is approximately 450,000 points.
41. Diablo (PC Game)
Many of you would probably put Diablo further up
in your rankings but I wasn’t able to jump on the bandwagon
when this first came out. Only recently have I been
able to experience this game.
40. Risk (Board Game)
No, I’m not talking about the computer game where
the AI is so predictable. I’m talking about hours of
diabolical, conniving, flip-the-board if you lose fun.
39. Bomberman (Super NES)
The multiplayer in this game is great for this platform.
I especially loved playing the twelfth level, the speed
zone, where one push too much can kill you. Lots of
fun!
38. Castlevania 64 (Nintendo
64)
This game continues the eeriness found in the Castlevania
series, except in 3-D. The controls are a bit off but
most players won’t even notice it.
37. Twisted Metal (Playstation)
I love games were you intentionally try to blow up
something. Forget what your parents tell you about violence,
this game is a classic.
36. Legend of Zelda: Link’s
Awakening (Gameboy)
The dungeon puzzles were extremely difficult in this
game. I still don’t believe that I have found every
secret shell either. Has anyone found more than 23?
35. Final Fantasy 3 (Super
NES)
This final Fantasy was good, but it wasn’t great
because of a couple of reasons. A good reason that it
wasn’t great was that you weren’t able to go back to
the other world and also you couldn’t get General Leo
as a normal playing character.>
34. Resident Evil (Playstation)
This game will definitely freak you out. The sounds
are perfect in this game from the creeks in the floorboard
to the howls of the zombies. Try playing this game at
night to get the best effect.
33. Megaman 2
This game has some of the best robot bosses in the
Megaman series. One of my most favorite is Quickman.
Dr. Wily’s castle is also one of the best in the Megaman
series.
32. The Legend of Zelda
(Super NES)
The third installment of the Zelda series which went
back to a top-view 3-D scrolling. The puzzles have gotten
even tougher in the dungeons than the previous two,
which I completely loved.
31. Super Castlevania (Super
NES)
This is one of a couple games that I would actually
buy the soundtrack if they had one. The graphics are
great and the game is a bit eerie, which is good.
30. Load Runner (Dos Game)
One of many classics that I hated to see go. The
other Load Runner remakes just didn’t compare to the
classic. The AI was brilliant because the enemies homed
in on you regardless if they were on the verge of destroying
themselves. But the thing is that they get unlimited
lives and you’ve only got one.
29. Castlevania 2 (NES)
I rented this game for two weeks straight just so
I could beat it. This was the first game that my whole
family and me actually beat together. Very entertaining
and scary at the same time, well to an 8 year old it
was.
28. SimCity 2000 (PC Game)
Oh this game frustrates me to the point of addiction
and obsession. I’ve had this game for a long time now
and have yet to get a metropolis. The closest I’ve gotten
is 4,000,000 people, maybe 4,250,000 but no more.
27. Final Fantasy 8 (PC
Game)
I played and beat this game during my first year
of college and it is quite different from the Final
Fantasy series in terms of storyline and gameplay, but
I loved the cinematic cut scenes.
26. The Legend of Zelda
2 (NES)
This game is great and barely missed my top 25. This
is different from the other Zelda game because it turned
to a side-scrolling adventure, yet it still carried
its legacy.
Top 25
25. Doom 2 (PC Game)
Just barely making my top 25 is the sequel to Doom.
This game was not as I anticipated it to be but is still
an enjoyable game. The cheats have definitely gotten
better and so have the monsters.
24. Castle of the Winds
(PC Game)
This is Diablo in 2-D scrolling. I got this game
as shareware and is the only game ever that I have bought
after playing the shareware version. This is an older
game and is a must download.
23. Dragon Warrior (NES)
I bought this game from my neighbor when I was a
kid and it couldn’t have been a better buy. This was
the beginning of a great series. They should remake
a sequel to this game in a higher platform, like the
PC.
22. Megaman 3 (NES)
This is my favorite in the Megaman series. The bosses
and special powers are cool and this is Dr. Wily at
his best. Not only do you get to face the Megaman 3
robots but also the bosses from Megaman 2 with their
original AI.
21. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
(Nintendo 64)
I think this is more of a flight sim than an action
game because the controls are great. The missions are
cool and really get you into the game.
20. Earthbound (Super NES)
This is one of those games that I got exactly on
its release date. This is a modern-day RPG with swords
replaced with bats and magic spells replaced with psychic
powers. The enemies are kinda strange but understandable.
Overall this was a very entertaining game.
19. Perfect Dark (Nintendo
64)
This game just came out a few months ago and it’s
already in my top 20. This is the sequel to 007 and
it was perfectly done. The multiplayer is great beyond
comparison to any other game. Everything that you wished
would have changed from 007 did and plus you can save
your stats. Expect this game to go higher in ranking
as time passes.
18. Gauntlet (Arcade)
Not the old but the new. My friends and I would find
places where we could play this game even if we had
to drive 30 miles to get there. It’s so much fun as
a multiplayer that I bought it as soon as it came out
for N64, though I still like the arcade better.
17. Super Smash TV (Super
NES)
When I first rented this game I truly fell in love
with it that I had to rent it for the next week. Over
the years I consistently rented this game because it
is absolutely fun. I was finally able to buy this game
and put it in my gaming arsenal. I love this game because
you get so many different enemies on the screen without
the lag that you get from other games.
16. Final Fantasy 7 (PC
Game)
Another great title by Squaresoft in the Final Fantasy
series. This is a great game with great characters,
weapons, a new style called limit breaks, and a unique
way of casting magic. One thing that I wished they could
have changed is the ending. I wanted to see Cloud and
Tifa get together.
15. Crazy Taxi (Sega Dreamcast)
Sorry to say but this is the highest Sega game ranking
in my top 100. I believe that this is the only game
good on Sega Dreamcast not offered on any other system.
Who would have thought that driving around people can
be so much fun!
14. Mario Golf (Nintendo
64)
The only affiliation I have with golf is that my
brother was on my high school golf team. Other than
that I have never played golf until he got this game
for Christmas. I couldn’t help but fall in love with
this game. I have almost completely mastered the game
and already have two “albatross” to my resume. Great
Game!
13. Secret of Mana (Super
NES)
The battle style is unique but still defines an RPG.
I love the way a character, spell, or weapon grew in
power by the frequent use of it. The monsters were cool
and the bosses were tough. Another classic RPG only
offered on the Super NES system and another hit by Squaresoft.
12. Chronotrigger (Super
NES)
A game ahead of its time. This game offered so much
and also had a great storyline. A classic RPG with multiple
endings and characters you could relate to. Too bad
the sequel to this didn’t come out for the US, cause
it would have been a definite hit.
11. Rogue (DOS Game)
Just barely missing my top ten, this game was around
long ago. I used to play this game all the time in my
Tandy 1000 computer about 13 years ago. A lot of you
have never even heard of this game. Well, in a nutshell,
this was the first Diablo, except with letters representing
the monsters and symbols representing weapons and armor.
There were potions and scrolls of identity and every
level was absolutely different. There were secret doors
and monsters were constantly generated. This is a classic
that many of you have never heard about but exist in
many of your games today.
Top 10
10. Legend of Zelda (NES)
Classics never die! Any real gamer would agree that
this game is in their top ten choices. This is the game
that revolutionized the adventure/rpg type games. Not
only was it fun but at the same time challenging. Who
can remember trying to get past those damn Wizzrobes
or Darknauts? But not only that but for your money’s
worth, you also got an extremely challenging and different
second quest.
9. FreeCell (Windows Game)
For some reason this game was addicting to me. I’ve
played it over 5000 times with an 83% win percentage
and a 25 game win streak and I have yet to stray away
from it. To me this is a classic game and was a good
idea that they put this in Windows. Sometimes I would
play this game for three or four straight hours. Deserves
to be in my top ten.
8. Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo
64)
What can I say about multiplayer games except that
I love them. The controls are great in this game and
I love games where you can win at the last second especially
while shooting that well timed red shell. I also love
games where you can come back from last place if you
tried hard enough to. This game is just tons of fun
especially in the multiplayer mode where anyone can
win.
7. Grand Theft Auto (PC
Game)
This is the game I played to get me through my first
year of college. After a long day of horrendous homework
and unreasonable professors, shooting people and stealing
their cars is a good way of releasing tension. The controls
were good and it almost felt like I was actually stealing
their cars. Of course the best part was trying to outrun
the boys in blue.
6. Pokemon: Red, Blue, or
Yellow (Gameboy Color)
What would be a top ten without some Pokemon title.
This phenomenon is just amazing. Who would have thought
that a little electric mouse named Pikachu would appeal
to so many people? He’s just so cute! The game is so
simple yet so intriguing and fun to play. Of course
collecting games is something anyone can relate to and
what better thing to collect than cute little critters
that can only say their name and obeys your every command.
My favorite out of all of them is the blue version (Don’t
ask me why), and yes, I have caught them all.
5. Command and Conquer:
Red Alert (PC Game)
When I was exposed to this game, I would play countless
hours on it. This is the best strategy game out there.
Allies versus the Soviets; I love games that let you
play as both the good-guy and bad-guy. The AI was fairly
challenging and was unhesitant to release a counter
attack or sneak attack. I’ve beaten both sides with
some good scores. This definitely had to be in my top
ten.
4. Final Fantasy (NES)
This is the Father of RPG’s. I believe that this
is the first game in this genre. It was well created
and very difficult. It gave you a bunch of options as
to what characters to choose to what weapons each should
yield. The monsters were tough and anyone could kill
you with one hit, if they wanted to. But they couldn’t
kill me because I was able to beat the game with a Fighter,
Red Mage, Black and White Wizard without my party dieing,
everyone with the same experience, and beat Chaos in
all-level 26!
3. Doom (PC Game)
Most games today came from this game engine in some
way. This is a beautiful piece of work. I can tell you
now that NO ONE can beat me at this game! I have played
over 5000 Doom levels in my life and I can prove it.
I have beaten this game in every which way possible
from percentage completion to time completion in the
toughest modes of difficulty. This is one of my most
favorite games and deserves my number 3 ranking.
2. James Bond: Goldeneye
(N64)
Bond, James Bond. I LOVE this game engine. Love the
bosses, the weapons, the level designs, the mission
objectives, the controls, but most importantly the Multiplayer.
This game is soooo much fun in Multiplayer and my deepest
regards to those who don’t get a chance to experience
Multiplayer as much as I do, which is about a whole
day once a week. My weapons of choice are the RCP-90
and proximity mines. I would like to say that I will
STRAIGHT UP whoop anyone’s ass that dares challenge
me. I’d like to give a shout-out to my Bond and soon
to be Perfect Dark rival Phil:
BOND CHAMPIONSHIP ANYDAY!!
My No. 1 Game of All Time
1. Final Fantasy 2 (Super
NES)
I LOVE this game to death. I believe that this is
the best game in the Final Fantasy series. The storyline
is great, the monsters are cool, the bosses are ingenious
(especially the Magus sisters), and the ending is one
of the best I’ve ever seen. The magic spells and weapons
are the most creative and most beautiful pieces of animation
out at that time and to this day (in my opinion). But
the two things I really like about this game are the
characters and the amount of secret weapons. Who can
forget Cecil, the dark knight turned light paladin;
Kain, Dragoon with the powerful Jump attack; Rosa, the
white wizard, the girl Cecil’s heart longed for; The
ever changing Rydia with her Call Magic; and funny ol’
Edge which I thought should have gotten with Rydia at
the end. Also the amount of secret weapons in this game
is unbelievable! There are a few that I still haven’t
even gotten. All in all, this is my most favorite game
and deserves my number 1 in my top 100.
