I wrote this my junior year in high school. It's in
the Canterbury tale format but everything is original.
I wrote it about a girl I used to go out with and her
name was Raven. Basically I just wanted to point out
to her that it didn't matter how different we were because
love surpasses all barriers. Of course it didn't happen
the way I wrote about it. But that's OK cause you can
only learn from those experiences. By the way I got
an "A" on my project and won first place in a poetry
contest with it.
Forbidden
Love
(Ten syllables per line, and always rhymed)
Once upon a fantasy valley dream
Where magical powers aren't all it seems.
In this shaded valley lived a raven
In a hallowed tree called its safe haven.
5 Where she
was attracted, then fell in love,
To a different species called a dove.
The dove had masculine feathers of white
Romantic gentleness expressed in flight.
Its silky feathers were as white as snow,
10 Modest
personality, who would know.
Because the raven's feathers were in black.
And it was against god's will to attract
To an opposite type, 'twas forbidden.
Although she was tempted, she wouldn't sin.
15 The
raven had different character
Of intelligence, beauty, and allure.
Her ravenous beauty a sleek design.
One in a million always hard to find.
Unknown history, though not threatening,
20 It came
while attracting everything
Through its grace. She rarely responded to
Her friends, kept to herself she planned to do.
As time slowly passed on she didn't know.
The other side, it always seem to go
25 For the
worst because the dove in turn loved
The mysterious raven from above.
But the stressful dove didn't express how
His true feelings were. He couldn't allow
It because he was scared to love so fast.
30 Every
time it never seemed to last.
For days and months, all day and night he longed
That one day his wish and dreams to belong
To the raven's liking would be fulfilled.
But how would he go about the God's will.
35 It
was a decision he had to make
And a risky proposition to take.
The only barrier was the type of bird
Each one was born into, which seemed absurd.
Though they talked and had a friendship as good
40 They
both wondered how their long-time friends would
React to their relationship. So they
Each thought, without each knowing, about ways
they could go about, through a love secret
Like the play Romeo and Juliet.
45 Time passed
on and fate played a game
That brought the raven's passion to the same
Somewhat type of bird as she was although
The other raven looked more like a crow.
But the raven seemed delighted despite
50 The other
birds forewarnings and foresight.
The illusion happiness there in part
Crushed the sad, dejected, lonesome dove's heart.
He vowed that he would never love again
But yet the dove and raven stayed good friends.
55 He still
had feelings and always stayed near
He had advice but never interfered.
He was afraid to lose the raven's trust
And would rather wait his deferred turn, thus
He waited until the day that she saw
60 Her misimpression,
her illusion awe.
But time passed on and the dove's life went on
And he forgot about his love beyond
The horizon lived in the hallowed tree.
Few months later, receiving happily
65 Some
news concerning the raven's break-up
And the ending of their relationship.
Dove knew that this was his very last chance
To woo and pursue, amour and romance.
He went up to his beloved raven
70 He
started with his feelings. He began
And the raven was touched by what he said
That he closed their eyes and guided his head
Towards the raven's for their destined kiss
Which they didn't think it would come to this.
75 Never
worried about regulations
And superior's say in relations.
They only worried about each other
And the way the lived with one another.
Because each other only thinking of
80 From
the first moment that they fell in love.
